Town Youth had plenty of the possession but couldn’t find a way through a stubborn Sporting defence and a late Sporting strike was enough to give them the points.
Nick Ballinger’s side dominated the first half but the Sporting keeper pulled off a number of decent saves to keep the game goal-less at the break.
It was more of the same after the restart as Town piled on the pressure. A series of crosses were launched into the Sporting penalty area with virtually all the action taking place in the Sporting half but in spite of forcing several corners Town were unable to make the breakthrough.
A red card following an off the ball incident didn’t help, and instead they were hit with a sucker punch as the Sporting centre forward caught them on the break with 15 minutes to go to slot home what turned out to be the decider..
Town still had chances afterwards to rescue a point but it was not to be and some further heroics from the Sporting keeper meant that a frustrating evening ended in Town’s second League defeat of the season.
