Report by Rod Abrahams
Town’s pre-season build up to the new season started with a defeat by National Premier League side Yeovil Town at the Huish Stadium. Stratford played two different teams for each half of the game, and former Town player Albi Skendi played the first half for Yeovil, after signing a 2 year contract with the Somerset club on Thursday.
Yeovil dominated the first half, with Stratford not seeing a lot of the ball. The Home side went in at the break 2 up following a brace of goals from their new striker Rhys Murphy, he poked the ball home from a yard out after Towns 6’ 9” stopper Sam Lomax could only parry a Bradley Ash shot on 21 mins. He got his second in the 42 minute, when he had time and space to control Carl Dickenson’s cross and drill a shot past the stranded Lomax into the bottom corner. The only response from Stratford in the first half was a shot from Nabil Shariff, which was high and wide.
With a complete change of personnel Stratford did have a better second half, although Yeovil were still the dominate side, but they failed to add to their first half lead with some stout defending and new keeper Elliot Taylor keeping a clean sheet. Towns two best chances of the second half both fell to striker Chris Wreh when he curled a shot past the home keeper but the ball hit the post and went to safety in the 71st minute, and with 5 minutes left his well struck shot was saved by the legs of the keeper to deny Town a consolation goal.
There is some potential there, but Stratford must improve their passing and not to give the ball away so easily and so often. Towns next game is away at Racing Club Warwick on Tuesday KO 7.45pm.
