Town boss Thomas Baillie was understandably ecstatic after seeing his side reach the Final in the most dramatic fashion.
“I felt that we were the better team throughout” he beamed “given the chances we had in the first half the game should have been over at half time, and in the second half it was exactly the same.
I haven’t seen the match stats yet but it wouldn’t surprise me in we had more goal attempts than in any other game this season.
Even right at the end when the score was 2-2 we had three strikers on and it won us the match.
It was difficult for us tonight as we had to field a makeshift backline, but the good news is that both Jamie McAteer and Jordan Williams should be fit for the weekend.
And it was a testing evening for Ross Etheridge. It was his mistake which gifted them their first goal and he was responsible for the penalty when they scored their second, but in between he has made a brilliant save from their first penalty and in retrospect that was probably the turning point of the game as had we gone two down it would have been a real struggle to come back.
Such is the life of a keeper !!
But getting into the Final will be a real boost for the club. it’s great for the fans, the players and the staff and is just what we needed after the setback against Rushall.
We can now look forward to what will be another tough game against Royston on Saturday. It’s not exactly a must win game but it’s certainly one that we want to win.
We still don’t know how many more points we need to be certain of being in the play offs but the sooner we are definitely through then the better it will be and we will be all out to achieve another positive result at the weekend.” .
