Halesowen Town 0 Town Youth 2

In a game brought forward 48 hours from its original date of Wednesday Town Youth moved closer to the MFYL Premier Division South championship with a vital win against a competitive Halesowen side who were occupying fourth spot in the table.

It was a closely fought encounter throughout the 90 minutes and with both defences on top there were few clearcut chances at either end but Town secured the points with two quality finishes to go four points clear of Gloucester City who are now their only serious title rivals.

Darren Timms’ side went ahead in the 38th minute when the Yeltz struggled to clear a cross from the left and Caine Elliott pounced to surge past a couple of defenders before firing past the keeper from the edge of the penalty area.

And halfway through the second half they doubled their lead with leading scorer Tommy Harrington notching his 14th goal of the season with a cheeky backheel from a right wing corner which ricocheted off a defender on the line into the roof of the net .
