“We desperately needed to get back to winning ways after last Saturday’s reverse against Alvechurch, and we deservedly did so this afternoon” reflected Town boss Thomas Baillie after seeing his side edge past Tamworth thanks to Wilson Carvalho’s strike early in the second half.
“We started with two up front but it was soon clear that it wasn’t working for us. They always seemed to have an extra man in midfield and as a consequence they dominated the possession.
We reverted to just having Nabil Shariff as our lone striker in the second half and our changed formation totally confused Tamworth who didn’t seem able to cope with it.
We also scored soon after half time and that really knocked the stuffing out of them. You could see their confidence drain away and once we were in front I felt that we were always going to win.
We continue to be handily placed in the battle for the play-off spots with games in hand over most of the other teams. One of those games is on Tuesday against Hitchin and if we can win that then we will be right up there with as good a chance as anyone.”
