Whilst the four play-off contenders will be jockeying for positions (3 points cover them) and the two season-long relegation scrappers fight for their lives, Town face a challenge to better last season’s points haul and equal their 14th slot. This has been Carl’s objective throughout the season, but what seemed like a very likely scenario at the turn of the year has been thwarted by some tough fixtures and some bad results (Farnborough and St. Ives excepted)
The situation for Saturday is that Town must win at Bishops Stortford (a draw is not enough) to have any chance of attaining the targets. Also it would require Merthyr to beat, or draw with, Redditch. On the other hand, if Town lose – and Biggleswade and Merthyr win – then Bishops Stortford, Biggleswade and Merthyr leap-frog us and we remain below Redditch, and leaving Town in 18th due to inferior goal difference !
Current positions and fixtures are :-
Redditch 54 pts (away at Merthyr)
Town 54 pts (away at Bishops Stortford)
Biggleswade 52 pts (home to Dorchester)
Merthyr 52 pts
Bishops Stortford 51 pts

Up the Town !
