Mike Taylor’s 58th minute header from a Charlie Evans cross after Zak Martin had fired the visitors ahead on 25 minutes earned Town a draw against Sutton Coldfield in the final friendly of their pre-season programme at the MoodChimp Stadium on Saturday.
Afterwards Town boss Carl Adams reflected on the game and his side’s pre-season preparations as a whole ahead of the new League campaign starting next weekend.
“This afternoon’s match was nothing special with the players on both sides understandably not wanting to get hurt in the last friendly before the season proper begins. Apart from Charlie Evans who put in an eyecatching performance in the second half no-one really stood out to make a firm claim for a shirt in the starting line-up at Royston.
And that is the one real problem that I have. All of the squad have done well in the various pre-season games, but no-one has been exceptional with the result that everyone is doing as well as each other.
So in essence all the shirts for the Royston game are up for grabs, and I have some serious thinking to do between now and then.”
