Town have a very good chance of clinching 14th place in the league this season, if they win this Saturday’s clash at home to Kettering followed by relegated Cinderford (away) and poor travellers Dorchester (home),
They must, however, be on best form to beat 8th placed “Poppies”, who have an impressive away record this season (W11 D3 L7 f47 a32). Recent results show us both on 11 out of 18 points from our last six games.
The other protagonists for 14th slot are St. Ives, Dunstable and possibly Redditch – if they find some earlier-season form. The remaining fixtures are :-
St. Ives (53 pts) – Kings Lynn (h), Merthyr (a), Chippenham (a)
Dunstable (51 pts) – Hayes & Yeading (h), Cinderford (h), St. Neots (a)
Redditch (48 pts) – Kings Langley (h), Merthyr (h), Slough (a)
Town have 52 points (which already betters last season’s total of 50, finishing 19th). But they must better – or equal – Dunstable’s “easier” run in and better St. Ives “harder” fixtures. Happily, goal difference is on Town’s side, should they finish on equal points.
It appears that Edwin Ahenkorah (definitely/probably) and James Hancocks (possibly) will miss Saturday’s clash, as well as Emmitt – out for the season – and “Spider” currently on holiday.
Hopefully Town will get a large Easter Saturday “Townite” following as Kettering are likely to bring a good-sized travelling fans contingent.
Up the Town !
